Ratings beat Navy School teacher to a pulp.

From what the victim, Rashid Ibrahim narrated about the incident, these guys just wanted to take out their frustration on a civilian, and they got it. Hope they are happy now? Finally the authorities over there will have to wade into the manner in which civilians are assaulted in that Naval school, before they kill someone oneday.

Six naval ratings Wednesday allegedly beat one of the teachers at the Nigerian Navy School, Abeokuta to stupor following an argument. An eye witness told The Guardian that the intervention of the Commandant of the school, Commodore M. A. Olatunji, saved the victim, Rashid Ibrahim, a senior Food and Nutrition teacher from being killed. Ibrahim, who joined the school in 1998, was rushed to the sick bay for first aid after which he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta where he was admitted.

Sports master of the school, Mr. Mathew Oduronbi, disclosed that trouble started when an argument ensued between Ibrahim and one of the ratings simply identified as Aliyu, which later led to exchange of blows. “I saw them arguing, the argument dragged on for a short time. I felt that it was a minor argument, so I did not intervene. It happened around 7:15 a.m. I later saw Aliyu trying to drag Mr. Ibrahim (victim) out of his car. “Oyerinde (one of the ratings) later instructed Aliyu to beat him, and that was how the whole thing started. Another officer, Shodiya, came out from his vehicle and joined them and other rating officers pounced on Ibrahim to the extent that they used their thick belts on him until it got torn into pieces. All my attempts to pacify them were rebuffed,” Odunronbi said.
According to him, “this was not the first time it will happen, this is the sixth time in two years that civilians started working here (the school) that they will be brutalised and nothing has been done”, the sports master said.
Speaking from his hospital bed, the victim complained of pains all over his body. Narrating his ordeal, Ibrahim said he was beaten for no just cause, adding that the officers accused him of abusing one of them. “Almost all parts of my body are in pains, the major areas are my head and my back, my ribs are affected and I have bruises in my mouth. They gave me blows in my mouth.”
