THE Labour Party has condemned
in strong terms, what it described as extreme desperation by leaders of All
Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and All Progressives Congress (APC) to win
the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State at all cost.
This is as it extended its sincere condolences to the people of the state, especially the families that lost their loved ones in the unfortunate tragedy at Uke, in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, last week.
It also wished those injured and receiving treatment in various hospitals in the state speedy recovery.
In a statement by the national chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu and secretary, Alhaji A. Salam, the party argued that there was no justification for going to a place of worship to campaign.
“It is sacrilegious and despicable for the governor of Anambra State and the de facto leader of APGA to lead the national chairman of his party, Chief Victor Umeh and the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Willy Obiano and other party stalwarts to storm the Adoration Ground at Uke, to canvass for votes.
“As if their presence at the Adoration Ground was not enough assault on the sensibilities of innocent worshippers who have come from far and wide to seek the face of God and submission to their numerous problems, Governor Peter Obi mounted the altar and began to reel out his achievements and made promises of greater accomplishments if his party’s candidate is elected,” the party said.
It said the action of the APGA leaders and the counter-action of the APC desperadoes were all pre-planned and clinically executed.
