President
Goodluck Jonathan has rewarded the victorious Golden Eaglets with a cash gift
of Two Million Naira (N2m) to each for winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the
United Arab Emirates on Friday.
Other cash
prizes include, team's Head Coach, Manu Garba who was rewarded with N3 million
while his two assistants Emmanuel Amunike and Nduka Ugbade were each given N2.5
million. Other officials of the team were also rewarded with cash gift ranging
from N500,000 to N300,000.
Beside the
cash gifts for the victorious team at the Presidential Villa Abuja, Jonathan
also announced that national merit awards will be bestowed on the players and
their handlers, as well as NFF officials in the next round of National Merit
Awards.
This is the
second time in the year that Jonathan will be rewarding the nation's national
football teams. Early this year, February to be precise, the President rewarded
members of the Super Eagles and their handlers after winning the Africa Cup of
Nations in South Africa.
