LA Airport Partly Closed After Shooting

By JENNIFER MEDINA
Parts of Los Angeles International Airport remained closed Saturday morning as authorities tried to piece together information about a 23-year-old man wielding an assault rifle who killed a Transportation Security Administration officer on Friday, sending panicked travelers fleeing and paralyzing one of the world’s busiest air hubs for hours.

Inset: The gunman identified by Federal Officials as Paul Ciancia, 23.

Ticket counters reopened Saturday at the scene of the attack, Terminal 3, as federal agents continued to comb the area for clues.
In all, officials said, more than 1,550 flights, carrying more than 160,000 passengers, were affected by the attack, which the authorities said was carried out by Paul Ciancia, a Los Angeles resident. Mr. Ciancia entered the airport Friday morning with an assault rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition, killing the T.S.A. officer, Gerardo I. Hernandez, and injuring at least two others. At least four more people were injured in the ensuing melee.
