South Africa’s Tiger Brands interested in stepping-up its Stake In Dangote Mills

According to VENTURES AFRICA, South Africa’s largest food company, Tiger Brands announced through its Nigerian financial advisor, Vetiva Capital that it is ready to step-up its stake in Nigeria’s Dangote Flour Mills (DFM) to 70 percent by purchasing ordinary shares worth 332.5 million at N9.50 ($0.06) per share.
Tiger Brands initially bought 63.35 percent from Dangote for $181.9 million in 2012. The company, which has 49 percent stake in UAC of Nigeria Plc, also acquired Deli Foods Nigeria Limited raising concerns of market monopoly especially when the Securities and Exchange Commissions (SEC) approved the transaction.
“DFM is a market leader in both the flour and pasta market segment of the Nigerian consumer food sector with strong branding, production and distribution capabilities,” the Company said. Probably the sole reason why Tiger Brands is buying into the company, as it believes it will enhance its existing businesses in Nigeria and increases its opportunities in the food market
The decision to start the process of increasing its stake to 70 percent indicates that the South African food company is confident of its investment in the Nigerian market despite recording some setbacks after the first acquisition.

Confab - Ndigbo Kicks Against Representation by Politicians

It seems ordinary Nigerians are not the only ones that have totally lost their trust in politicians, but Ndigbo as well.
As preparations for the National Conference intensify, Ndigbo have warned that politicians should not be allow to represent them at the Confab so that their interest would not be traded off by politicians who are always mindful of their personal interests.
Also, the apex Igbo socio-cultural body, Ohaneze Ndigbo has been urged not to dabble into politics but to allow the Prof. Ben. Nwabueze led Igbo Leaders of Thought to articulate the position of Ndigbo for the conference.
According to a prominent Igbo leader and nominee of the World Igbo Congress to Igbo Leaders of Thought committee for the articulation of Igbo position, Engr. Obi Thompson Oyibo, the warning became necessary following what he saw as betrayal of Igbo interest by Igbo members of the Senator Okorumnu committee which went round to gather views of Nigerians on the conference.
He said that Igbo Leaders of Thought is made up of selfless and prominent Igbo people who have the interest of their people at heart and should be allowed to marshal out the position of Ndigbo at the conference.
Oyibo warned that Ndigbo should not repeat the mistake they made in 1998 when patriotic Ndigbo had apathy for politics making way for those he described as "gamblers, insincere and fraudsters" to dabble into politics to represent Ndigbo.
He said that Ndigbo would lose out if the selection of membership of the National Conference is done based on Federal Constituency basis, insisting that the best representative that would take care of the Igbo interest would be by ethnic representation.
Oyibo also expressed worry over the squabbles in the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo, saying that it was very wrong for the apex Igbo socio-cultural body to be washing its dirty linen in public, which he said was an embarrassment to respected Igbo leaders.
"I feel ashamed and insulted that Igbos are washing our dirty linen in public. Ohaneze is a socio-cultural leadership of Ndigbo not political leadership. Ohaneze should not be dragged into politics. There are so much for Ohaneze to do to correct the current malaise in Igboland.

"An organization so divided can't hold Igbos together. Igbo Leaders of Thought should be allowed to lead the way in articulating the Igbo position in the national Conference", Oyibo insisted.

Sectarian violence as Muslims flee capital of Central African Republic

A Muslim woman escaping for dear life from the violence in Central African Republic, as Chadian soldiers protect a lorry in Bangui on Friday

Thousands of Muslims have been fleeing for their lives from the capital of Central African Republic. In recent weeks, angry mobs have set fire to mosques and have brutally killed and mutilated Muslims. On Wednesday, one Muslim suspected of having aided last year’s rebellion was brutally attacked after which uniformed soldiers then paraded his body through the streets before it was dismembered and set ablaze.
The exodus comes after two months of sectarian violence in Central African Republic’s capital that has targeted Muslims accused of collaborating with the now—sidelined rebel government. Read more on The Hindu

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, plans establishing a business presence in Liberia pays courtesy call to Pres. Sirleaf of Liberia.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Our own Alhaji Aliko Dangote is blazing the trail once more as usual by extending his Business tentacles further in the West African sub-region. Well what can we say, but A HUGE KUDOS TO HIM. Read,
Africa’s richest man, billionaire Alhaji Aliko Dangote, paid a courtesy call, Thursday, on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at her Foreign Ministry Office, where he briefed her on the progress of his investment in Liberia.
According to sources, the two discussed ongoing arrangements for a cement plant which the billionaire’s company, Dangote Cement Liberia Ltd. is planning in Liberia shortly, as well as plans for a coal-based power plant that would greatly reduce the cost of, and access to, electricity in the country.
Also on electricity, Mr. Dangote said that his proposed coal-burning power plant would produce some 20 megawatts of power, but his operations would require only 1.2 megawatts. The excess could be sold to the government at no more than 12 cents per kilowatt hour. “Tell us what you need, and we will produce it,” he said of the power-generation capacity of the plant, which he said could be operational in 15 months. Approximately 30 acres of land are needed for such a facility, which includes huge boilers and cooling plants, along with access to a source of sweet water – where the water table is high.
Mr. Dangote pointed out that throughout Africa, the major issue is power. Stressing that insufficient power leads to a stalled growth. Read more on allafrica.

Suit filed by PDP to Declare Amaechi, and Co. Seats Vacant Stalled by an Abuja Court

A suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seeking to declare the seats of five governors vacant for defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, suffered a setback at a Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday because the court summons were not served on the governors.
The court refused the application of the counsel to the ruling party, Alex Iziyon, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, to use the court floor to serve summons on the governors. It, therefore, ordered that the governors be served through the national secretariat of their new party, APC. Read full story HERE.
Can you believe this kinda charade? Court summons not served as at when due and again this kinda mistake made by a SAN? Where are we headed in this country?

Amazing!!! First Transparent Tablet Lets You Touch From Both Sides

Transparent tablets may sound like something straight from science fiction, but it may not be long before translucent slates hit the market. Grippity claims to be the world's first see-through tablet to come with two-sided touch controls.
The recently launched Kickstarter campaign promises to deliver the slate by next fall. Grippity features a semi-transparent 7-inch 800 x 480 display, and both the front and rear panels support capacitive multi-touch input. Running on a Cortex A8 processor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, you'll find 4GB of storage space with an SD card slot that adds up to 32GB of extra room. Grippity supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and also comes with IR blaster that allows it to function as a remote control. WOW!
Grippity is the first transparent display tablet we're seeing come to market, but the concept itself isn't new. Samsung has been showing off tablets with transparent, 3D flexible displays since 2011.

MOTORCYCLIST RIDES INTO TOWN NUDE

Ya'll know White people are crazy, right?

A video of a naked man riding his motorbike through the streets of Germany – in broad daylight – has become the latest internet sensation.
The footage starts innocently enough with a close-up of a sleek black R6 bike. So far, so good.
But then the camera pans across to the rider as a ‘Baller Boyz’ sticker is put on his bare chest.
Baller Boyz then proceeds to take off his boxer shorts, leaving him stark naked – apart from his boots, gloves and helmet.
‘It was not unappetising to watch,’ says a female onlooker.
He may have no shame but he’s clearly a stickler for safety.
And finally he’s off – streaking through Munster, north Rhine-Westphalia, on his trusty steed as shocked Christmas shoppers look on.
The mystery rider’s cheeky journey seemed to be the result of a Facebook bet.
He had put a photo on the social networking site, saying he would ride naked through Munster’s Christmas market if the picture got 1,000 ‘Likes’.
However, not everyone was impressed by his antics, and the police are now investigating the incident.
‘We think it was a petty offence,’ police spokesman Andreas Bode told thelocal.de.
Bode added that although Baller Boyz’s real identity could be difficult to establish, as he kept the helmet visor down throughout, the police ‘would be looking into it regardless’.

Jonathan Predicts Great Future For The Nigerian Child

As if in response to my earlier post “What future for the Nigerian Child???” Nigeria’s president, Doctor Goodluck Jonathan, has seized the opportunity of the season’s religious festivities to predict a brighter future for Nigerian children.
The President, joined residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, to worship at the Apostolic Faith Church in Jabi, and there he called on Christians to continue to pray for the continuous peace and unity of the country, in the midst of daunting challenges.
The president, who uses the holiday season and yuletide to worship in any church he likes, stressed that if he could make it to the highest place in the land, then no Nigerian child should suffer.
The General Overseer, Reverend Emmanuel Adeniran, while noting in his message that the visit of the President on the last Sunday of the year is of great significance, also reminded the congregation that one’s closeness to God matters a lot, above all.

My Nighttime Encounter With President Jonathan – 23yrs old female secret admirer

Dear CB readers, i found this piece so interesting and yep, FUNNY that i had to share it with you guys. Enjoy!

It was the occasion of my uncle’s birthday party, which President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan honoured in person. I had the good fortune of being the one asked to serve him. His security detail scanned me with some device before they allowed me to approach him. While attending to him, I noticed the look in his eyes. At that point, something happened to me that made me become somewhat unconscious of my environment for some seconds.

Gosh, he’s got the sexiest eyes I have ever seen. And when you talk about a man being good-looking, sweet, and gentle, then you are referring to my one and only heartthrob, GEJ.
There’s really something about my President that keeps me thinking about him all the time. I just can’t put it in words but I know there’s this unexplainable feeling I have for him. I often wonder if anyone else feels same way about him.
Back at my uncle’s party I guess he noticed I was kind of lost, so he said, “Young lady, hope all is well,” and I managed to reply “Yes,” and I immediately left for my bedroom.
Since then, every night when I go to sleep, I dream about him. All day long, I think about him. There’s nothing that thrills me more than his smile. Whenever he smiles, I feel something spark inside of me.
He’s got all a woman would ever desire in a man. Is it his height or his sexy eyes? Oh my! Everything about him is so appealing and to sum it up, he is the president of a great nation, Nigeria, the giant of Africa.
Of course, he is way older than me, but I just can’t explain why I have this special feeling for him. He is 56 years old and I’m 23, but like they say, “Love is blind,” and I guess that blindness has caught up with me and I just can’t help it.
I think something I just can’t explain happened between me and Mr President during my first encounter with him, and ever since then the feeling increased.
Later on, the night of my uncle’s birthday, I was in my room, unable to stop thinking of how I made a fool of myself and possibly embarrassed my uncle- if at all he had noticed what had transpired. In the middle of my thoughts, I got a call from an unknown number. I picked the call; someone with a rather stern voice, more or less, ordered me to hurry up and come towards the gate where Mr President’s convoy was parked. I did so.
On getting there, lo and behold, it was Mr President that had sent for me through one of his SSS agents. Mr President stepped aside from his guards and asked if I was okay, I replied that I was. Then he told me to feel free, that he isn’t a demi-god. I guess he thought I was scared or feeling inferior before him which wasn’t the case.
I summoned courage and replied it was nothing close to that. With a look of curiosity, he asked me to tell him what it was then. I told him that his eyes caught my attention and sort of mesmerised me. He smiled and signalled to one of his guards who gave me a card and told me the specific time I could call. I was restless until that time came and I dialled the number. While the phone was ringing, I had a call which woke me up from a very beautiful sleep. I then realised I had been dreaming all the while.
Well, I don’t mind dreaming so long it’s about Mr President. I just love it when I have such dreams. Sometimes I wish he was as young as I am, or that I was a bit older so that I could have him as mine for the rest of my life. But I guess I just keep dreaming and dreaming and dreaming…
